What is SharePoint

SharePoint is server based software which accelerates the delivery of web based applications. There are 2 different versions of SharePoint. Windows SharePoint Services (aka WSS) which is a free install on Microsoft Windows 2003 Server and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (aka MOSS) which installs on top of WSS.

With WSS you have the ability to create web sites for a variety of purposes. WSS is highly configurable which is why specialist consultants such as the SharePoint Gurus are needed to gather your requirements, determine the most appropriate software version and configure your solution.

MOSS extends the capabilities of SharePoint with web content management (WCM), online forms, connectivity to other business applications and online reports (to name only a few capabilities).
