SharePoint Document Library makeover
Microsoft is revamping the SharePoint document library UI. This was covered in the August OneDrive Office Hours, which is now available on YouTube.
The new look is scheduled for November 2025, but some of the features will be rolling out sooner.
The screenshot below is taken from the YouTube video and shows the new UI.

Some of the key changes mentioned in the presentation:
- The breadcrumb navigation now has a dropdown button. This is where you can navigate to other libraries in the same site as well as add or upload new items. Currently the option to navigate between libraries is only visible at the top level of the library.
- The command menu moves over to the top right. This will include the Copilot actions for document libraries, similar to the existing Copilot actions in your OneDrive. A new Forms option will allow you to set up Microsoft Forms to accept new documents. This is similar to the feature available today for lists.
- The “New” button is moving to the top right. However, you will be able to create items from the new dropdown menu on the left.
- Views are moving to the left side. You will be able to create board views, similar to the SharePoint list board views.
- Common file type filters will be available.
Microsoft are saying that this will make the experience more similar to OneDrive. Perhaps this is a more long term goal, as things like the new button and command menu in OneDrive are in a different location to the UI demonstrated. It does feel that the styles are going to be more consistent.
Overall, this doesn’t appear to be a dramatic change. Most users will get used to the new look with little hassle. A lot of training material will need to be updated. I think more people will discover the views functionality, which will be a positive thing.
